Used to e would in inglese: quando si usano, differenza e frasi



Differenza tra used to e would

Sia used to che would sono usati per descrivere qualcosa che succedeva regolarmente nel passato ma non succede più, come mostrato nei seguenti esempi :

1. I used to go, but I quit two years ago. 
Ero solito andare, ma ho smesso due anni fa.

2. I would write every day. 
Ero solito scrivere ogni giorno.

in questo uso used to e would sono intercambiabili.

 
Tuttavia, esistono due importanti differenze tra used to e would. La prima differenza è che would non deve essere usato a meno che sia già stato stabilito che il tempo in cui si parla è nel passato, used to invece non richiede questa condizione.

I used to watch tv every day.
Ero solito guardare la tv ogni giorno.
Questa frase è corretta e risulta naturale all'ascolto.

Non sarebbe corretto dire:
I would watch tv every day.

Se invece diciamo :
When I was young, I would watch tv every day.
Quando ero giovane ero solito guardare la tv ogni giorno.
Questa frase è corretta, perchè abbiamo specficato prima (when I was young) che il tempo in cui si parla è passato.

La seconda differenza tra used to e would è che would non può essere usato con i verbi di stato (stative verbs) ma solo con i verbi di azione.

Gli stative verbs sono quei verbi che non accettano la forma progressiva, che esprimono uno stato e non una azione (feel, love, understand etc)

When I was young, I used to love sport.
Quando ero giovane, amavo lo sport.
Questa frase è corretta.

When I was young, I would love sport.
Questa frase non è corretta.


used to inglese

in inglese used to si puo' usare in due modi:

used to

1)I used to do something
ero solito fare qualcosa
Marco used to be a very nice boy.
Marco era un ragazzo molto carino.
Luca used to go to the theater every Saturday.
Luca era solito andare a teatro ogni Sabato.


be used to

2)I am used to doing something
sono abituato a fare qualcosa
I am used to running long distances.
Sono abituato a correre per lunghe distanze.

Si usa per azioni che accadevano regolarmente nel passato ma adesso non accadono piu' , o per cose che erano vere ,ma adesso non sono piu' vere.

    (non e' per me strano o una novità)

  • She isn't used to this food (non e' abituata a questo cibo)

  • she isn't used to eating this food (non e' abituata a mangiare questo cibo)

  • she get used to italian food : si è abituata al cibo italiano

  • she is getting used to cooking italian food : si sta abituando a cucinare cibo italiano

  • she will get used to eating spanish food : si abituerà a mangiare cibo spagnolo

  • she got used to living alone: dovette abituarsi a vivere da sola

Sono abituato al cibo italiano.

Possiamo usare indifferentemente be used to oppure get used to per dire che una cosa che si fa e' per noi normale, ci siamo abituati, o comunque non e' una situazione nuova o atipica.

used to

differenze tra get used to e used to

GET USED TO significa "abituarsi"
Get used to si usa per riferirsi a una qualcosa a cui ci si è adattati in passato o ci si deve ancora adattare nel presente o nel futuro.

Quando l'adattamento non è ancora terminato non si può usare used to ma solo get used to. In pratica, Se ci stiamo ancora abituando, o dovremo abituarci nel presente o nel futuro, oppure nel passato eravamo in una situazione in cui ci stavamo adattando, in questi casi si usa get.
You'll soon get used to italian food.
Presto ti abituerai al cibo italiano.
In questo esempio abbiamo usato get perchè abituarci al cibo italiano è un adattamento ancora in corso.


NB la particella to che compone used to è una preposition, quindi bisogna applicare la regola secondo cui le preposizioni in inglese sono seguite dalla ing form.
