l'uso piu' frequente del presente progressivo inglese e' per parlare di qualcosa che stà succedendo al tempo in cui si parla, ovvero in questo momento,proprio adesso (now,at the moment)

si puo' usare il present continuous anche per parlare di cose che stanno succedendo nel presente, ma non necessariamente nel momento in cui si parla:

come si forma il present continuous

Il present continuous inglese, detto anche present progressive, si forma con il presente del verbo essere ( to be ) seguito dalla ing form del verbo principale.

La ing form del verbo e'

riepilogo

il presente progressivo inglese e' uno dei tempi piu' usati della lingua inglese, ed e' anche uno di quelli che più si presta ad essere usato in maniera scorretta : e' importante ricordare che il presente progressivo deve essere, di solito, usato per esprimere qualcosa che sta' succedendo nel momento in cui si sta' parlando.

Non deve essere usto per esprimere abitudini quotidiane ,che devono essere espresse usando il present simple. E' importante,inoltre, ricordare che il presente progressivo inglese non deve essere usato con i verbi di stato ( stative verbs ) ma solo con gli action verbs, ovvero verbi che esprimo azioni e non stati.

segue un riepilogo dei principali usi del present continuous :

1)cose che stanno succedendo adesso ,in questo momento
he is reading in the sofa -> lui sta' leggendo nel divano

2)azioni che stanno succedendo in un periodo intorno a questo preciso momento :
she is working very hard because tomorrow for the match of tomorrow sta' lavorando molto duro per la gara di domani

3)si usa il presente progressivo inglese anche per programmi futuri
We're having a good time this evening. -> oggi pomeriggio ci stiamo divertendo What are you doing tomorrow afternoon? -> cosa fai domani pomeriggio? She isn't coming on Friday. venerdi lei non verra'

4) con espressioni comuni come :
